Subjects (Genre)
LB, a genderqueer person from Chicago, writes about relationships, bad jobs, travel, and city living and includes small illustrations in her personal zines. She includes drawings and clip art and the entries are all typewritten or handwritten. In issue 13 and beyond, she writes about her job as a new teacher at a public middle school in Chicago, and the frustration and misery she experiences, as well as the small moments of laughter and gratitude. LB attempts to maintain control in the classroom while still being human to her students, and focuses mainly on her 7th period "problem class." In no.15, genderqueer LB, now 30 relates more stories about teaching English in a failing public high school, and makes a point to incorporate activism into her assignments. She also writes about Rahm Emanuel, her dying grandfather, going on tour with a punk band, and getting evicted. Included are doodle-y inks "re-creations and approximations of student work." Issue 16 includes the usual stories and drawings, and tells LB's story of the Chicago teachers' strike against Emanuel, including email reprints.
